Her research interests include college access and persistence of American Indian students, particularly those from urban environments, as well as the experiences of homeless and former foster youth in college. Some of her past research has explored the reproduction of hegemonic masculinity in a collegiate student service organization following implementation of Title IX and how women “do gender” in Southern sorority recruitment.

'hegemonic masculinity' is masculinity proper, as commonly understood -- as opposed to 'alternative masculinity' of some kind, which does not seek to be 'hegemonic' i.e. 'patriarchal.'
