I wouldn't call him SPS but none of the Allied commanders in WW2 really astonish with their brilliance. The best commanders were really just great organizers who managed to not fuck up their colossal advantages in manpower and material.

True, the early Pacific War is one of the few exceptions to that rule, though 1. Spruance is the only example of a commander positively killing it in those circumstances, and 2. The gargantuan Allied victory at Midway, quite frankly, owes a lot to luck.
