Backing out is relatively easy and requires only a few looks around.
plus, since it's on the person who's leaving a parking space to come out slowly and cautiously (versus the person who's just driving through the main parking lane), why would you choose *that* time to be in a position meant for speed? you still have to leave the space slowly and carefully. you shave off maybe 5% of the time. but when you're in the main lane, you can just slide into a space, versus suddenly engaging in some slow game of Tetris. |

Date: June 24th, 2018 7:22 PM Author: Disgusting cracking spot Of course backing out is easy. That isn't the point. Both options are easy. Backing IN, coupled with driving out pointed in the forward position, is clearly safer when you think of the field of vision for both options.
The risk leaving your parking space is that you are heading INTO the space where cars are moving in both directions, and people could be doing weird shit. When you are pulling out already pointed in the right direction, your field of vision is far superior simply looking forward. You don't have to rely on your mirrors/camera, and when the front end of your car clears the cars directly on either side, you have a clear 180 vision around you far earlier than if you were backing out.
The benefits here are so obvious when you take the time to think about it. There really is no argument. |

This is one of those things that proles do to show off but it only really impresses women/children with 2 digit IQs.
Second of all, there are so many reasons not to do it. If there are people behind you, it's ridiculous and a facepalm moment for everyone. Not to mention if there is someone ripping around a corner while you do it, they could clip you. This is the same risk as when backing out, however, backing in probably still takes longer most of the time which heightens your exposure. Also your driver's side door door most likely faces the driver door of the car next to you, which means that if you're crowded on the other side, you have no choice but to crowd your driver's side, as well as someone else's, greatly increasing the chance for dings.
Also, the average adult male can pull into a parking space effortlessly and never need not repark... backing in greatly increases the need to re-park which heightens one's exposure and wastes time. |
