The ancient Israelites spoke Hebrew - they were driven from their ancient homeland by Romans - they spread into Europe and the diaspora and adopted local languages + developed Yiddish eventually - Hebrew became relegated to mainly liturgical language spoken by small group of very religious Jews - eventually becomes national language of modern Jews in Israel (their descendants) after formation of Israel. The cultural-linguistic link dating to ancient times is evident. How you do not see this is different from someone just learning Hebrew is too obvious to bother spelling out for you if you can't.
