Some of this I just blame on the decision to rush ep. 8 in two years. There's hardly enough time to vet a script before filming. Given more time, I think they would've reconsidered the whole casino thing.

Basically every reveal in the movie was anticlimactic and lamer than the Reddit fan theories. Even the way they handled the big bad was fucking boring. Why kill the villain before he does anything remotely interesting? They failed with basic storytelling and failed to deliver simple fun moments. People don’t really care about the protagonist being a girl or a general having purple hair. To your point though, perhaps the production team spent too much time trying to make a feminist movie and forgot the most critical step of building a compelling plot that sustains the momentum of the franchise.
