The first line (which I agree with and support) is that ICE has since the pre-Trump years engaged in systematic civil rights violations. Detaining citizens and foreign nationals who are here legally for weeks or months on end, without a hearing, based on an initial false positive identification (often derived from the crappy internal ICE database). I have a problem with the mode of operation and I don't think it can be saved as an organization. Moreover it is the epitome of an overly militarized civilian police force. The organizational culture is totally compromised. So I say fuck it, disband it, but replace it with regular customs enforcement and a sane, reorganized border patrol agency.

But I don't disagree with the fundamental premise that we need to track, police, in many cases deport illegal immigrants. I'm a shitlib but you have to have a border. The DSA wing of the democratic party (or many of them?) seems to disagree with the idea of national borders generally which is insane and untenable.

The only reason he's not "totally anti-gun" is because the demographics/local politics of Vermont require him to remain at least *slightly* moderate on that particular issue. And the only reason he's not (yet) calling for the abolition of ICE is because it's not (yet) an absolutely mandatory position for liberal politicians to hold, and given his own druthers, he'd clearly rather close the borders and create his idiotic vision of a socialist utopia. But let's see if he holds to that "principle" come 2020, when he runs for the top of the ticket again and it has become mandatory for liberal politicians to demand that ICE be abolished and he's still struggling to get minorities to show up at his rallies...
