Hydrology is obviously going to be pretty in demand as water becomes increasingly expensive and disputed.
You won't get rich, but people that do anything related to environmental or occupational safety have a fuck ton of make work careers available to them with state governments that often times have ludicrous pension and health plans. These are easy careers because strivers don't major in this shit and all it takes is a bachelor's degree and then an industry related certification or license. Example, city of SF has multiple people that just do "noise pollution" work where the respond to complaints, take some measurements, and crank out some BS report on the incident. These dudes have a BS, a cert, get out of the office a decent amount, and as a real kicker, the city often likes the fact that they do their work slowly to delay shit.
Welcome to an easy 100k+ career that doesn't involve years of study and massive student loan debt. Just do community college AS, transfer for a BS at state U, then get this credential:
