What the fuck is an Agile or a Jira? Why does "Lean Six Sigma" sound like some kind of trendy diet that's popular among thirtysomething shrews? What the fuck do these people do all day? Can I learn it?

Not flame, buddy of mine has MBA in "project management". Now helps manage construction, renovations and other "projects" for a hotel company. I think it's mainly about improving efficiency in terms of time and cost and keeping moving parts on task. I think? I don't know.

It's a role that exists because software "engineers" are faggots who need to be tortured. It is the one thing that tech gets right.

you clearly don't work in tech. Agile is just corporate speak that signals a communication process between development, operations, and management. Jira is software that tech professionals use to track and request edits to the codebase and infrastructure.

i actually have good social skills (yes i know, i post on a racist chatboard, how is it possible that i have good social skills). i kind of want to look into the profession now.

also--i know two PMPs, and both of them have extremely mediocre social skills. like, they're not completely useless, but they pretty much can't hold a conversation on their own. both make good $$ though.

Yup, they basically have a spreadsheet of who's doing what, what the agreed upon deadlines are for each thing, and keeps track of what is on time and what isn't.

In my experience they often have almost no knowledge of the industry or the project.

Basically a PTA mom for the corporate world or something.

Project Management forms a substantial component of my job, though not 100% of my job. I have a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

The guy above got it mostly right. My most important duty is to lead a conference call or meeting once or twice a week, which everyone who is doing work on the project attends. I then ask them all for an update on what they're doing and see if the project is still on schedule, if any risks have materialized, etc. I also meet with key executives once or twice a week and brief them on the status of each of my projects.

i work in tech in an agile/jira environment. they do all the work that the developers can do but dont want to do. I dont want to host meetings and take fucking notes/minutes. or constantly be "following up" with people. i dont want to maintain some stupid spreadsheet and worry about "deliverables". they add a degree of value, but are overpaid for what they actually "do".
