Date: July 17th, 2018 2:30 PM Author: Electric dun locus indirect expression hey it's pretty good u should check it out -- it's a 20s composition by the Italian Gipetto Marcini, released in September '22 as Mussolini was rising to power (just before the March on Rome). What's interesting about it is, in the recording, he used two garage-built prototype Fender Stratocasters that a very young Leo Fender had designed while in California and somehow managed to ship out to Italy, likely in a nascent sign of his support for the fascist regime and its artistic cultural retinue (little known fact about Leo and sort of ironic given his relevance to the rise of American rock in later decades). The song is full of allusions to the upcoming March on Rome, suggesting that Marcini had some sort of direct line to Benito or at least his inner circle--lines like (translating here) "and we will tear at the gates of Rome; the blood will run in the streets my dolly darling" (http://www.autoadmit.com/thread.php?thread_id=4027368&forum_id=2#36445320) |
