Since you got me thinking about it, what do we think the AM Sportcenter ratings look like relative to 15 years ago?
Seems like that's how people follow national baseball players, do people watch a lot of out of market full games? Or if you made Sportscenter the next morning?
I watch a lot less Sportscenter than I used to, but maybe I just moved out of the demo, idk

Correct my stupidity here, the argument for Trout's greatness is largely based on 'over replacement' stats? Am I wrong about that?
Seems like the end of the steroid era has seen a real drop out of the 'replacement player', at least as understood by the counting stats that capture the imagination of casual fans.
For Trout, the thing that sucks (at least for his popularity among casual fans) is that casual fans have the memory of MacGwire, and Sosa, and Bonds. Is to really capture the imagination of the casual fan, he has to do something that seems impressive relative to those guys, not relative to his post-steroid era contemporaries.
