Went to a large, big-city USAO 2 yrs ago, and 2.5 yrs out of law school. Job has been fun, but not fun enough to justify the shit-ton of hours. So my personal life kind of sucks and now I want to move back to my hometown.
The way that my office works, I can't really get marketable, impressive experience without putting in another 3-4 years.
So if I go back to a law firm now, I will probably be worse off from a career development perspective than if I had just stayed at the law firm to begin with. And of course, I've left at least 400k on the table.
But if I stay the 3-4 years to reap the career benefits, I'm going to be stuck working 60 hour weeks in a high COL city that I don't want to live in anymore.
lol @ lawyers.

Did you not know this going in?
clerkship, 3-4 years in biglaw, as many years as possible in USAO until they make you a deputy chief or something, then back to biglaw as counsel, then pray that you're promoted to non-equity partner, then &c
