Most trannies are lousy. CVTs are notorious for being shit. Mazda has always had the smoothest, least trouble-prone transmissions for passenger cars. Fords are pretty good but the old manuals would grind going into reverse.

Eh, I prefer rangers to f-150s, but I don't own either now. Had a 84 f-250 with the int'l harvester diesel and a 82 ranger a few ears back though.

Hmm. Domestic I'd get a 2007 silverado with the Allison tranny and Cummins diesel. Foreign I'd get a hilux or a tacoma.

I thought I'd mistyped something - the Silverado had the Duramax, not the Cummins (an Isuzu collaboration, amusingly.)

i'm not a huge carmo, but this is exactly what my mechanic mentioned to me the last time i was there. some lady was coming in with a nissan that was a year old and the tranny was shot. and he was explaining to her that fixing it wasn't worth it and she really just needed to get a new trans.

Jeep Grand Cherokees with the V6 engine and their version of the ZF tranny, which generally are great but they botched the implementation. The V8 engines are fine.
