(w) Branded as easy to build on: "Unlike a blockchain like Ethereum, NEM doesn’t make use of a proprietary programming language like Solidity or Scilla."

(x) 10k XEM coin = Masternode for scalability (https://bitcoinexchangeguide.com/nem-leader-clarifies-why-xem-selected-proof-of-importance-poi-consensus/)

(y) "The chain uses a reputation algorithm for peer-to-peer networks. Everyone on the network is assigned a global trust value based on certain parameters."

(z) "NEM is the LEGO of Blockchains

NEM’s modular Smart Asset system delivers the means for you to design to put almost any application onto a blockchain."

---

Plus some hype and FUD on their forthcoming "Catapult" update: https://www.coinist.io/a-critical-evaluation-of-nem-and-its-catapult-update/

Pro: Japanese ties, focus on tech industry

Neutral: "it is not a Turing complete, and the smart contracts are off-chain (which increases centralization)"

Cons: Update is delayed since 2017, hyperbolic blogposts from the team mixed with a lack of communication on updates, removal of technical info from their site

---

In other news: NEM reportedly spent ~70 mil USD on an australian blockchain hub: https://ethereumworldnews.com/nem-xem-invests-100-million-aud-in-blockchain-hubs-in-australia-and-new-zealand/

---

Overall, XEM/NEM might not be worth purchasing, but no reason to necessarily sell it off either. It has a place amongst other smart contract bets in a diversified portfolio.

NEM uses a PoI (Proof of Importance) which appears to be a masternode type of PoS, where masternodes get a chance at doing PoW.

A Masternode costs 10,000 XEM coins. (Approximately $1,600.)
