How much would repealing celibacy help the Catholic rape problem?

Is celibacy so fundamentally important to Catholicism that it's worth all of this? |

there is a certain autistic purity appeal to the celibacy rule, but it's not necessary and it's pretty clear at this point that it has led to more negatives than positives. if the church got serious about banning fags, then maybe it would be a viable setup. hard to tell until it happens |

the celibacy part came like 2 centuries later iirc and i don't remember the ostensible rationale for it |

It was immediately clear when the abuse scandal erupted and there wasn't an immediate disgusted insistence from all top officials to root out and eliminate every priest with any involvement. There'd be nobody left. |
