Trump: Mueller’s team trying to meddle in midterm elections
By Mark Moore August 20, 2018 | 8:40am | Updated
President Trump referred to Robert Mueller’s team as “Angry Democrat Thugs” who are looking for “trouble” as he continued to rail about White House lawyer Don McGahn being interviewed for 30 hours by the special counsel’s investigators.
“Disgraced and discredited Bob Mueller and his whole group of Angry Democrat Thugs spent over 30 hours with the White House Councel, only with my approval, for purposes of transparency,” Trump posted on Monday morning, misspelling counsel.
“Anybody needing that much time when they know there is no Russian Collusion is just someone looking for trouble,” he continued.
In another tweet, Trump complained that “If you FIGHT BACK or say anything bad about the Rigged Witch Hunt, they scream Obstruction!”
The president also continued to accuse Democrats of collusion and wondered why Mueller wasn’t investigating them.
“They are enjoying ruining people’s lives and REFUSE to look at the real corruption on the Democrat side – the lies, the firings, the deleted Emails and soooo much more! Mueller’s Angry Dems are looking to impact the election. They are a National Disgrace!,” he said.
The president has been on a tear since Saturday about a New York Times report that said McGahn spent 30 hours over nine months speaking to Mueller’s prosecutors.
The report said it was part of an “open book strategy” by Trump’s legal team to provide information to the special counsel so that he could quickly wrap up his probe.
Trump’s lawyers gave McGahn the go-ahead to speak about matters close to the Russia probe, including the president’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, his frustration with Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ recusing himself from the investigation and his interest in wanting to fire Mueller.
In tweets over the weekend, Trump compared the Mueller probe to McCarthyism and called out the “Fake piece today implying” that McGahn was a “John Dean type RAT.”
Dean was the White House counsel who helped bring down Richard Nixon’s presidency when he testified against him in the Watergate scandal.
