and there are some good right wing comedians.
you'd be hard-pressed to find an actual shitlib comedian who wasn't a hack (look at how bad tonight show hosts are). |

Back when being a conservative christian was the zeitgeist, you could expect good comedians to curse and question silly religious ideas/practices (and probably have a liberal bent). The whole job of a comedian isn't to be left or right wing, it's to point out what's wrong in society. So how a (good) comedian comes off really depends on what society is like at the time they are performing. |

Tim Allen had a show written by liberals that was cancelled because he played a conservative. Drew Carey admitted years after his show ended that he was Republican - he had just pretended to be libertarian so they wouldn't take his show away. Dennis Miller recently said young comics come up to him frequently and ask what they should do, and he tells them to shut up and and go with the program until they get big enough to where they can admit they are part of the other 50% of the country.
For every 1 Kuwaiti lesbian comic that gets her own show on Hulu, there are probably 50 funnier white comics from Staten Island who have 20 minutes in their act about Hillary. But they're not getting a show. |

Certainly the percentages of right wing performers are a lot less than in the general population. These are people who take big risks and most end up not making it (and can be a burden on their families, or burden their partners and families). Most conservative people won’t make that type of leap. They feel duty bound not to be a burden and to take care of their families. So they become accountants.
Or so that’s my theory. |
