I'd say the two critical factors for having kids who don't stray is:
1. Make it clear what you believe and why you believe it.
2. Make sure that your kids respect and look up to you. If you promote a moral code to them, be sure you follow it yourself. Live a life they will want to imitate.
I also think having a moral code that underlies your politics is important. In my family political attitudes are mostly an organic outgrowth of religious and moral beliefs. If neither of you are religious (you've never mentioned religion, to my knowledge), that could make things a lot harder but not necessarily impossible. |
