How does it come out of the ceiling? Does it look flush, meaning you need to pry it off with something?

if properly installed it's mounted to wood studs in your attic and youd need to get in there to properly replace and connect the new ones to exhaust ducts

previous owners connected both bathroom exhausts to a single flexiduct that goes out a single hole below my gable vent. wtf. i have to make a separate hole. both bathrooms need dedicated exhausts to function properly

Not sure that's worth the effort and potential danger of getting up on a ladder on the exterior of your house to create a second hole, especially if they aren't both on at the same time.

surprisingly it has made a huge difference....my house used to be uncomfortably hot from 10am-4pm once the roof/attic heated up. With insulation it has gone from 10 degrees hotter than outside to 10 degrees cooler, and always super comfortable. I hardly ever use AC now.

This is a cr upgrade. Worth the money to buy good fans that have good airflow but are still quiet.

highly variable. i did this a while ago because there was mildew on the ceiling around the fan. i thought it was a roof leak, but it was actually some stupid bullshit where the people who installed the fan didn't seal the duct properly and it was funneling water to a rafter and dripping into the ceiling.

it was kind of a mess to clean up and repair because the new fan was a different size and i had to cut the ceiling up a bit and also relocate the power cable duct so i could clean up the shit that got wet. about 95% of the work was done in the attic with only a few finishing touches done from the floor of the bathroom itself. i don't remember it being very technically challenging, though. it was mostly just inconvenient. my new fan literally had an illustrated sheet on how to hook it up to power and so on.
