I've never been able to figure out how these things are worth it

You have to invest a ton of money and only break even in 10 years or so

WTF, tell us all how to do this

You're collectively costing us millions of dollars by hoarding this information

Vacation house in 300+ days of sun with massive roof. Helps that it is sloped + south facing. The draw is next to nothing 70% of the time, so excess sold constantly. It's great. MAGA

We have them on our house and only pay like $10 a month for electricity. And we use a TON of electricity. But the economics of putting them on yourself is different. The payback period is like 6-8 years.

If these things lasted 20+ years with no maintenance it would seem to be a no brainer

My fear is the panels start to develop problems around the time you break even

meh can't sell solar panels in the u.s. without a 20 year warranty

but i would only do it in a state with high power cost like cali

So I looked into it a bit and the local power monopoly in my area has worked with local goverment to ensure that it isn't cost effective for anyone to install a solar system any more:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.azcentral.com/amp/81886548

The biggest LOL here is that this is in Phoenix

And if you already installed a solar system: hahaurfucked

they are legit in relatively sunny areas where the local government hasn't specifically set things up to make them a bad investment

It's a god damn shame for those of us in Phoenix. See my link above.

Here is a quote from the same article:

"Officials found that the average customer in that group paid $181 a month before solar, compared with $122 a month with solar on the demand rate."

So tell me who is going to spend $10k or $15k up front to save $59 per month? Or am I just reading this wrong?

yeah if only we could have just let germany win WW2, so the entire world would consist of meticulously logically plotted out single-family homes, each equipped with solar panels and inhabited by a monogamous mother and father with 2 children who help out with the yard work since there are no illegal immigrants to do it
