I hate running but I force myself to run a mile after working out. I get bored so I'll do like 1 min at 10 mph and then 1 at 7 etc or I'll start at 8 and go up .5 every min til I finish. Try to make it interesting so it's not just staring at the distance waiting to be done the whole time

I hike a ton outside already. This is just when I'm at my building gym or at a hotel or something. It's a nice way to throw in some quick cardio

do you know what is a nice way to throw in some quick cardio? Literally walk out the door and start running.

20mins of 9-5 intervals. 1min at 9, 2mins at 5.

This is after lifting.

Pre-lift is 1000m on the rowing machine in about 5mins.

just got back to running after my pec surgery.

7.5 mph at 3% incline for 3 miles. Trying not to swing my arm too hard sprinting.

my old workout:

1 mile at 9-9.5 mph increasing speed. This is sort of a warm up.

then 200 meters at a 5 mph brisk walk. then 400 meters at a 12 mph "sprint"

repeat 5 times. Whole work out took about 22 minutes and ended up at 3 miles with all the running and walking.

Nice. I never thought I'd say this but starting to get the itch to do 5K stuff. Currently I just hike/trail run for my long cardio. Treadmill is more a way to workup a sweat at the end. Usually run the mile in about 7 min plus or minus 30 sec depending how I'm feeling

his suggestion is a good workout. But let me say this - if you want to start doing 5Ks, do a lot of your runs outside on the pavement. Trust me.

protip: i sometimes do a fast walk at 15% incline (max on my gym's treadmill) to mix it up. this is surprisingly a good workout with low impact on the knees. my heart rate goes up just as much as if i were running.

this is prior to lifting:

11 minutes at 6.5

3 minutes at 6.8

3 minutes at 7.1

1.5 minutes at 7.3

1.5 minutes at 7.5

0% incline

2.3 miles total

this is pre-lifting. I should probably run after lifting but I don't really care about lifting heavy or improving at lifting anymore . just do it as an added bonus

6.5 MPH for 1.5 miles, then intervals of 60 seconds of ~9-10 MPH with 120 seconds of ~3-4 MPH for another 1.5 miles.

I also watch Jeopardy episodes, which is the best treadmill distraction available.
