The only "making best friends as adults" examples you see in our modern storytelling are in buddy cop movies, I haven't seen it elsewhere. I've made new friends as an adult, but I have the feeling best friends requires trust, guilelessness, innocence, which I have some but not enough, not what a younger version of me had.
