do people like this think they're being clever? everyone knows he was deliberately being an asshole and not simply stating a biological scientific fact. it was completely transparent and he was immediately fired for it. dunno what he hoped to gain from this but it clearly backfired and anyone with a room temp iq would have seen that coming (perhaps that's the issue with him idk)

Eh it's a student-newspaper gig; he probably did see the consequences coming and decided to trade the position for whatever point he was making.
It's only a decidedly dumb decision if (1) he's in a field where his only options are to become a cog in the shitlib machinery (e.g., academia); and (2) he hadn't already burned his bridges to those places (which, bear in mind, as a white male happens instantly to first-time offenders who don't toe the line). It seems unlikely that the type of dude who'd write this would be in that situation.
