that in turn makes me feel better about myself that im the kind of person i want to be. i admire those that help their friends and family and it feels good to aspire to do the same
when i was so stuck in the mud on my own issues it exacerbated the fact that i was not in a position materially or emotionally to be able to help the people i cared about, that i was somewhat of a burden on them instead of a net benefit to them, and that made me feel worse about myself |

If you are an adult that is in a position to help your loved ones, but do or cannot due to your issues, then it makes sense to hold yourself in lower esteem because of it.
This does not make sense if you are not yet in this position (for example, a student).
Helping your friends and family is a good trait too. And I agree it is an admirable quality. I just don’t see the connection between this and your poasts, or why it is “normal” to feel this way. The only way it makes any sort of sense is if you are a burden when you should be helping, but surely this is not a common position for many to remain in for long. |
