I'm also off the hook on having to pay $3K in Obamacare penalties every year now too, which is a big plus. I also like the fact that AA is getting blown up--it's about time for that and I think we'll see some positive effects in the near and short term. We'll have a new set of problems when AA is vacated, but I'm sure we'll be able to find some productive solutions that don't involve starting new wars simply for the employment and economic development, which I would be opposed to doing. As for abortion, it really does not affect me directly, at present, but I think they should continue to leave that alone. Climate change is a big issue for me, and I'd like to see some positive NEW approaches to this besides old international agreements that don't work. If Trump said he was pouring funding into developing technological solutions for climate change and was actively exploring and testing sulfur dispersion in the upper atmosphere as well as storm-intensity reducing structures in the oceans, I think he would probably have my vote. My wife seems to like what he's doing on the international stage, so she's conflicted. that said, I would say w respect to Obama--who is really irrelevant here, no?--I appreciated first off the fact that we didn't muddle around in petroleum industry nonsense propaganda--and I didn't feel like I was being lied to. I also appreciate the fact that he cultivated an awareness of the problem and actively worked to sustain international agreements--which--yes, have their own problems. The thing that frustrated me w him was that he thought that international agreements were the best way to move ahead, when in reality we start w a sensible acknowledgement of the future and its problems, and then work HARD to develop solutions through the only thing that doesn't prompt the same degree of international resentments--technological development. |
