I 100% agree that it's on both sides of the table. The problem, of course, is that once you get a group used to spending, they act like spoiled children once it's taken away. Medicare, for example, is a HUGE disaster, as spending on very old people in the last year of life doesn't provide much utility to a country; yet no political party will get rid of it for fear of losing votes and elections.
Rand Paul had a great line about spending in one of the GOP primary debates -- he said that spending never goes down because each side just horsetrades for the spending that benefits them, which just results in double the spending. |
