Your PW is a 9 iron and your 4 iron is a 3 iron. So, yes, drop the 4 iron and add another wedge. What kind of wedges do you currently play and what's your loft setup (52, 56, 60)?

If you really wanted to keep your 4 iron (you obviously don't) or wanted to add some other type of utility/hybrid club, you could go 48/54/60. But yes, you definitely need to add a 48*. I can't imagine playing with a 9* gap at that end of the bag.

Yeah it's a problem now and has probably cost a few strokes per round. I didn't notice until I worked on dialing in my wedges 4x3 and had like a 25 yard gap on the full PW vs 52

Go to Golfmart/Edwin Watts or PGA Superstore and demo some used players clubs. You can find a nice set of Mizuno MP-64s, Callaway Apex pro, or TM Tour Preferred irons for $150-300. The Mizunos are great because they are a very soft forging and easy to bend to customize loft/lie angles. I bought a set of MP-63s (forged players iron with minimal cavity) last year for $200 and spent another $50 having them retrofitted/bent to my specs.

I'm a shortmo (5'8") with long arms (could dunk a small basketball in my teens), so I naturally have a flattish swing. Off the rack irons are typically already 3* upright from standard, and based on past fittings I know I require irons that are 3-4* flat. When I use an upright off the rack iron I hit it super high and dead left. I would essentially have to force myself to swing super upright and come over the top/cast to get the ball to fly straight. Depending on your build and current swing, the off the rack specs might be fine for your game.

I definitely recommend spending $50 and going to a pro in your area to have them do a dynamic fitting with a lie board.

my tip with irons especially is DON'T MOVE YOUR HEAD. yeah it's like rule number one of golf but most people have a little sway or tilt with their irons. keep your head dead still and let the swing flow around you without tension. it's the only way consistently hit the same part of the face

"DON'T MOVE YOUR HEAD" is oft-repeated, yet, terrible advice. The head should naturally move a bit in a proper transition. Especially with iron play where you're looking to increase left side bend in the early downswing. Excessive head movement is a symptom of greater issues in the swing. Saying "don't move your head" to an amateur player usually just creates tension and ends up in a terrible arm swing. As much as I hate using these types of instruction idioms, "turn in a barrel" is probably a better one to get the idea of a rotational movement across to an amateur. Or "turn into the inside of your right knee" on the backswing. Both thoughts are meant to get the player turning and not swaying.

you're probably trying to hard to square the face, and then you cut across the ball. try to hit a few where you don't worry about it and you feel like youre gonna hit it out to the right (or left if you're lefty)

If he's already hitting a push, the last thing he needs is to try to swing more to right field. His options are to stay with his current path (in-to-out) and try to close the face a bit to hit a draw, or attempt to neutral out his path and keep his face angle as is. In the short run, it's much easier to just get the face closed via a motorcycle move or whatever.

Holy shit you seem really badass. All those 40 somethings I see playing pickup basketball and soccer seem super badass and athletic and defintely not like pathetic old farts trying to grasp onto whatever little bit of ability they ever had in the first place.

Don’t take up golf. Seriously, he pga tour is not ready for a weaponized piece of man meat like yourself.
