Twenty or so elephants were cruelly killed and, "when they had lost all hope of escape tried to gain the compassion of the crowd by indescribable gestures of entreaty, deploring their fate with a sort of wailing, so much to the distress of the public that they forgot the general and his munificence carefully devised for their honour, and bursting into tears rose in a body and invoked curses on the head of Pompey."" |

What I don't get is what in these people's DNA compels them to pay such money to kill these animals. Anyone who has been to Africa knows that it is not impressive. If you go with a guide within an hour he can have you 3 feet away from a lion in a jeep.
It makes sense if youre killing deer in your state to eat, but there's something very weird about flying halfway across the world and paying $40,000 to shoot a giraffe that is just standing in the open eating leaves. |
