-Graduation Day: Tepid early slasher and early Troma production; somehow this made more money in 1981 than Friday the 13th Part II

-Return of The Evil Dead: The weakest of the ‘Blind Dead’ movies I’ve seen so far. But a fun Euro rip-off of Night of the Living Dead

-Zombi: Fulci’s classic does not hold up as well on a second viewing

-Scarecrows: One of those horror movies I had never really heard of, but a lot of fun and probably the scariest of the bunch. What a great fucking movie!

-Funeral Home: Godawful snoozefest.

-Lords of Salem: Pretty disappointing, although the scream queen witches are great.

Mandy is great: Basically a concept album in movie form. It’s good because it is tongue in cheek but also deadly serious in a weird way. Cage is great, and there’s a scene with him in a bathroom that many view as just a series of freak outs. That’s because those people are mentally deficient and post buzzfeed links on Facebook. Cage’s performance in that scene, of alternating rage and pain and brief acceptance and then horror and pain again probably is what many people would look like in that situation.

Yeah, the situation is goofy and over the top and like a prog metal fever dream. But if it happened, Cage shows you exactly how you would react.

The Slayer: Maybe the next time I watch this early slasher I won’t fall asleep. But it’s been twice that’s happened to me. I did wake up in time for a nifty scene with The Doors though.
