The first time was in fifth grade. I have told this story to several people, but I'll repeat it again. Basically my grandfather died and my grandmother boxed up a lot of his stuff and my dad stored it in our garage in Northridge. I was always interested in rummaging through shit and I decided to look through the boxes. Inside one of them was a bunch of 80s/early 90s porno VHS tapes. I was too young to really think about them in a sexual way, it was more like "holy shit that's really cool."
At the time I was going to a jewish day school. I told my friends about them and they offered to buy some of them. I ended up selling a bunch at $50 per tape. Keep in mind, most of their parents were rich and these kids had a lot of money. For example, one of the girls in my class was Stan Kurlands daughter. He was the guy who founded Countrywide and then after founded Pennymac.
One of the kids I sold to got caught with a tape and ratted me out to their parents, who then told the school. I was called into the Principal's office and my mom showed up. The principal asked me to return the money to the kids. I told her the tapes would have to be returned. My mom actually backed me up and said it was her husband's property. Obviously, the school didn't return the tapes and I didn't return the money. I got suspended for two weeks. My mom actually thought it was hysterical and didn't punish me for it (my mom is super chill).
The second time I did something involving porn was senior year of college or the year I graduated (I can't remember exactly). I went to the 24 hour fitness in Sherman Oaks and there were a lot of porn stars and producers there. I worked out with a bunch of older dudes in their 40s who were established and already successful. One of the guys, who I am still friends with, owns tens of millions in real estate. We started talking about forming a porn company and my wife, him, and one other guy decided to give it a go. Now keep in mind, this was in like 2004/5 and there was still some money to be made in porn. My wife and I did a bunch of research into the laws regarding age verification, etc. We then had several meetings with our partners. The name was came up with was Pink Paradise. We ended up not moving forward because of creative differences. But, the experience of doing the legal research made me and my wife interested in law school. That's actually how we decided to go.

Even though I make literally 15x her income, knowing that she makes a decent salary plus health insurance makes me a lot less stressed. There is no guarantee that PI will always be good or I will always make millions. It is also nice that when I retire in a few years, she can still pull in 12-13K a month to supplement our investment income.
Also, it is important in a relationship for people to have something different to talk about. If we both worked together we wouldn't be able to talk about our days the same way. Moreover, her job is super flexible and since we have a child and plan on having more, it allows her to be a good mother. |

It's kind of nuts that with everything that's happened in porn and in web video the biggest sites still have the same basic format and release structure that they had in 2004. It's the web equivalent of CBS Monday sitcoms, because a huge swath of their user base has to be olds who are stuck in their ways, but even easier to disrupt. The whole world has been trained to pay a cheap subscription price for high quality streaming content, and to not horde content in files on a hard drives anymore. But porn still seems to expect you to have a drive hidden somewhere in your house/on your system. People would pay for a high-end, premium concept with tons of narrowcasting that makes people feel like jerking is healthy and normal v. the current set up which seems premised on trying to trigger incel shame spirals. Start up costs would be big, but it would be cool to just take over porn and be the next Hefner.
