i guess my take on south florida is that original settlement was at the town level -- florida used to be a thinly populated agricultural state -- and as a result there are zillions of tiny little towns along the atlantic coast north of miami proper and west to the everglades. a lot of them have strongly ethnic characters, like you have russians in one, romanians in one, venezuelans in 15, colombians concentrated here and there, cubans in hialeah and everyplace else, etc
once you start to get north of ft lauderdale, things get a little more "normal"
"florida man" is real and is endemic. like geckos or palmetto bugs, he can get by in a marginal ecological niche, and there's never a good freeze to clear him out, so you'll never really get rid of him |

soflo is hit or miss, you might live in a really nice gated community but be zoned for a 99% black public school district, or have crackheads wandering through your backyard at all hours, or get lucky and have a mile or two of buffer zone between you and stone cold ghetto. I can name a few nice little enclaves around west palm beach or ft lauderdale, but not many |

Literally majority of other towns that aren't hick are like this. South Tampa to Naples is pretty normal. If you want something Uber nice and exclusive and all xo then either S. bayshore drive or Davis Island or GTFO. But this is a normal family who needs a normal town. If you live on the east coast of Florida there is a 75% chance your child will be broken emotionally before high school graduation.
