https://knoema.com/atlas/topics/Tourism/Travel-and-Tourism-Total-Contribution-to-GDP/Contribution-of-travel-and-tourism-to-GDP-percent-of-GDP

The 5 countries with the worst performing tourism sectors (as a percentage of GDP) and are also clean/hygienic are

Russia, Poland, Taiwan, Luxembourg, and South Korea

Kind of surprised by countries at the bottom of the list except Luxembourg, which has nothing going on but banks. Taiwan and SK should at least have Chinese tourists and domestic tourism. Russia has stuff to see and is actually good value for money. Poland I guess really is the most meh decently sized country except for PUAs.

Luxembourg is great for a 2-3 day visit. Russia's problem is the visa is expensive and a hassle to get. Poland has lots of great stuff to see. Taipei is neat but for sure not a top priority for people visiting Asia. LOL @ nyuug.

Not a lot of takers for Poland despite no visa issues for nearly everyone and easy access. It could just be meh compared to the rest of Central Europe.

Krakow is beautiful and has a bunch of stuff, Warsaw has a rebuilt old town and Soviet style shit in the new city as well as some good museums. Wroclow is supposedly nice. Gdansk is allegedly a 18000 party city. Def doesn’t have the same “prestige” value as shrew trips to Prague though.

But I think Ryan Air goes to Krakow. It's crowded as fuck.

There are beach towns in the north that are ok. Definitely surprised about this one, may return soon

Taiwan is a really nice country and off the tourism trail enough not to be swamped. Chinese tourists are there but the Taiwanese fucking HATE them and they’re limited in number.

It looks the explanation for Taiwan is simply since a hostile to Beijing President was elected in 2016, organized tour groups from the mainland to Taiwan were banned as a soft economic boycott:

But these days, only a few individual tourists come to admire the lake. The lull followed the election of Taiwan's new leader Tsai Ing-wen, who assumed office in 2016. President Tsai has refused to adhere to the 1992 Consensus, angering people on both sides of the strait.

According to the local authorities, the number of mainland tourists to Taiwan was more than 4.18 million in 2015. But after Ms Tsai was elected, the number plunged below 2.73 million last year, down more than 30 per cent.

Shocker here is Poland. How can this be? Krakow is crowded as fuck-easy getaway for Europeans, close and affordable and no visa..

I love Taiwan but not much reason to go there

I guess Krakow alone is just not enough to lift up the whole tourism sector of a country of 40 million.
