He only comes in during breaks in Lenny's tour. Never really talked to him about his job, but I found myself curious the other night when he came in.
I looked up Lenny's tour on my phone and saw he's going to Slovenia and Austria in April.
I asked him what size venues Lenny is playing in these days and he said not that big in the U.S., but in Europe they fill up stadiums.
I go, "Why is that? Because Europe is like 10 or 20 years behind us?" and he got a little defensive.
He said music culture is more commercialized in the U.S. It is "more about the music in Europe."
"Oh," I said, "So he's a jam band now?"
Then his face wrinkled and he said no, Lenny is not a jam band. He used to jam on some songs a few years ago, the roadie said, but not anymore. They play like 25 songs a show.
I still don't know what that means. Lenny Kravitz was a pop star. He tried cranking out hits. Now he's performing those songs that he tried to turn into commercial success in countries where people will still pay to see him. Failing to see how that is "about the music" when he's not even jamming on them. Sad!
