no. this despair mirrors what speculators went through in '14, when the arguments for crypto's demise were MUCH stronger given that the entire market tanked b/c of one fraudlies exchange that got hacked.

if you have like $1m in liquid net worth and are OK with seeing that $100K potentially go to 0, sure.

think of crypto as a lotto ticket. psychologically, whatever you put into it should be viewed as a total loss, which is something i've been consistent about from the beginning. the volatility is insane and most people cannot handle it rationally.

the last bubble and crash was literally due to fraud and insolvency in the biggest exchange. bitcoin was toxic at that point, volume had dried up, and many (like paul krugman) gloated about how bitcoin was failing like they had predicted. it wasn't "fud"--the market manipulation, fraud, illegal stuff was even bigger back then as most bitcoin holders were using it to buy and sell drugs. if crypto was going to die, it would've been then. the fact that it didn't has given me much more confidence in crypto as a lasting asset.

mt gox was a joke exchange. who cares if it was hacked when, at the same time, real exchanges like coinbase were already on their way? that's weak FUD

today, we have 700 billion dollars wiped out because fucking ethereum and its parasitic subsidiaries made promises of the moon and delivered piss squat. bitcoin, meanwhile, finally hit its wall of NO INSTITUTIONAL INVESTORS. that's strong FUD. and even if bitcoin comes "back" and becomes a more stable investment asset, who cares? no moon

exactly. last market crash, it was some Magic the Gathering trading card exchange that got crashed, and a bunch of pimply nerds and drug dealers and chinese money launderers who lost money. the numbers were much smaller, the volume minimal.

today we have novogratz losing $150million for his wall street friends. we have billionaire VCs who possess stupid and wrong theses about how fundamental value accrues in this space (and losing big-time for it). we have billions of dollars worth of nonsense companies perched upon the ecosystem continuously draining it of fiat. we have CNBC blasting this stuff non-stop, with orders of magnitude more normies who've lost their shirts with this being the first time they've had access to it via "regulated" exchanges like coinbase. it's LOL all around

I disagree. The argument for crypto's demise now is much stronger. Crypto back then was something exotic that a few people did or could do. Today is different. It has been democratized. Anyone can get on their smartphone and buy some bitcoin on coinbase pretty quickly if they want to. The barrier to entry is much lower. The dumb money is all in. Sure there is some peasant in India that is about to finally get a low end Xiaomi smartphone that hasn't bought yet. But he is too poor to buy anyway. Any retail investor that could "invest" has invested. And smart money knows this is all a scam so they aren't going to invest. This jig is up imho.

Lolololol. Don’t worry highly sophisticated funds are lining up to buy coins any day now. To the extent blockchain has specific use cases (eg for banks), the value can be captured via permissioned chains that don’t involve buying idiots’ “coins” at a 100x markup.

This is a theory you've repeated several times for which you have provided no evidence and which still makes no sense. Let's assume (wrongly) that most people bought bitcoin in the last two years and lost money.

Your theory then relies on the idiotic proposition that a person who was dumb enough to panic buy Y coins at X price and lose (Y)(X/2) before selling is now suddenly smart enough to see the price of coins go from X/10 to X/5 and not panic buy again

Your theory further ignores the fact that this pattern actually has happened again, and again, and again. But for some reason this time is actually different

i think the burden of proof is on you, not me

to get another bull run on par with the last bull run, bitcoin would need a market cap literally on par with gold.

i just don't see that happening simply on the thesis you're posting that another horde of dumb money are going to come to buy worthless coins for no reason other than to have another ponzi spree bonanza.

i know how tempting it is to think that it's for sure going to happen, because it's happened 3 times before. but that's no guarantee at all when you look at the fundamentals of the space

there's no need for a bull run on par with the last bull run for people who have been buying the blood (which is what you are supposed to do). Or for people who pumped, dumped, and might feel like making some easy money by pumping again

I am not guaranteeing anything. I am just pointing to history on one end and then the future capabilities on the other end and saying this will probably not go to zero, as you are insisting. A lot of very smart people are working on making the capabilities a reality, and you are like the bald Berkshire Hathaway boomer in the video squealing "but it's not real!!"
