the NPC phenomenon is separate from any of this left wing/right wing stuff. NPCs are a specific kind of psychological profile who do not critically think for themselves and have a strong psychological need to conform to a common narrative, more or less regardless of what the common narrative is |

i agree though that the essence of OP is bemoaning a universal lack of critical thinking, which obviously transcends political ideology, and in that regard, everyone <~125 iq is an NPC. there's a plausible comparative advantage argument that higher IQ types can benefit from NPCism by outsourcing segments of thought wholesale to trusted sources so they can allocate their time and energy more efficiently, for which we're all likely a little guilty.
