The no presents people bum me out - there has to be something, even if it's a nightie and a bottle of champagne or a plan for a night out, or something small but thoughtful (my wife got me a travel thermos once that I used daily for years instead of this cheap one I had that spilled all over).

In the last year, I’ve talked about instant pots and air fryers and browsed it on amazon and I don’t want him buying me any of that shit. If there’s something really specific I want like a certain wallet, it’d be weird to tell him “hey I want this wallet model #1234” and wait for him to get it on Christmas when I can just buy it whenever and all our money is commingled anyway.

What ive found is that I’m much happier when he just takes care of stuff throughout the year whenever I mention it. He arranged and framed kid’s artwork into a collage for me earlier this month because I’d been collecting it and was saying I don’t have the energy to do it. He re-potted the avocado tree that was dying that I was bummed about. I was super stressed about home security (also irrational post partum hormones) because there’s been some breakins in our neighborhood and he got a new security system installed.

Stuff like that to me is much more meaningful than giving me a sweater on Christmas that I’m probably not going to wear.
