I think the dorky uniforms etc make it difficult to admit you are active in it in middle school or high school, but I was happy I did it afterwards.

Going along w whatever is popular at the time is no way to survive. You’ve got to stick to your core and draw others to you. My nephew plays fortenite all the time but still enjoys camping etc. there is literally no other organization where you would get the experience you get with Boy Scouts. That would always have a place for a certain segment of the population

Now parents have to jump through hoops for their kids to be part of scouts. At the lower levels you always need the parents involved. Yea, I know, they should be involved. But it really kind of hampers the experience to have a bunch of moms and dads milling around cub scout meetings and events. When I was a kid parents dropped their kids off at scouts and the kids had fun with each other, then parents picked them up later.
