At the time, it was difficult for the feds to nail him on anything given their resources and the state of fed crim law in that period. The point the poster is trying to make is that you can't assume that what you call prosecutions for "process crimes" is necessarily indicative of the lack of a broader effort to address improper contacts and deals with Russia. More importantly, with the investigation not complete, I don't see how anyone can sit here and claim that Mueller has failed to uncover anything. |

It's not indicative of that at all. There are very plausible reasons why they would choose to only charge him with lying to the FBI. Any additional charges may have tipped off his co-conspirators in the other investigations (there appear to be 3 active ones in that heavily redacted sentencing memo). In fact your reaction is precisely the intended effect of this strategy. Up until now many (especially those of your political persuasion) thought Flynn's cooperation was superficial and not ongoing. They assumed Flynn made a few mistakes in an interview and was being unfairly prosecuted for some bs crime for which he'd serve little or no time.
The sentencing memo and now the additional prosecutions in Flynn related scandals hints at this strategy. |
