Not sure what to eat daily. Have been watching keto vids on YouTube, mostly from doctors with tons of followers.
Any recommendations on where to get the best info? I want to find realistic foods to eat on a daily basis.
Ty bros.

Are you doing full keto? Or Keto-lite?
Start off with time restricted eating and intermittant fasting to get better at producing / using ketones.
Ease into full keto diet slowly. Use lots of MCT oil, but only until you're keto adapted -- then stop. Not healthy long term.
You can't eat much meat. Seriously. Unless yuo are very good abuot choosing fatty cuts, meat has too much protein. Keto is a LOW PROTEIN diet -- not a moderate protein diet.
Excercising a lot will help you get keto adapted more quickly.

Can you tell me the difference between full keto and keto-lite?
I suppose I'm starting lite because I do have some carbs in the form of veggies and a small amount of berries (half a cup) per day. For veggies I do broccoli, spinach, tomato, avocado, one zucchini, and a bell pepper per day.
I am not eating meat actually. I just eat one fish filet per day, 3 eggs, and that's about it.
I do some cashews during the day as well.
I started fasting 12 hrs, I wanted to get to 16hrs but it's not that easy, you really start to feel the need to eat after the 12 hrs.
Would the above description qualify as keto-lite? Do I need to get rid of the berries/veggies for it to be full keto? That would make me worry about other deficiencies in my body, but wondering how effective the 'lite' version is. Ty for any info.

First day on keto: 180
Fast from 11pm until 1pm (12hrs)
Breakfast
-4 eggs. 2 scrambled with onion, avocado and broccoli, 2 sunny side up. Cooked with olive oil.
- 10 cashews
-berry shake with coconut milk.
Dinner:
-Spinach salad with grilled zucchini and bell pepper, fish, avocado.
-10 cashews
-Left over berry shake
3 cups of black coffee before breaking fast
Several glasses of water
Not hungry at all, in fact, pleasantly full with all that good fat. Will be reducing amounts as time goes by. But I didn't eat that much really.

Generally, don't try to go intermittent fasting when just starting keto. It takes a few days at least to get your body to a place where you are in the "no-hunger" zone.
Perhaps you really aren't hungry and it works immediately for you, but for most people to avoid getting discouraged in the first few days you should eat when you want without counting calories, just making sure you stay under the carb limit. The diet still works immediately under those circumstances, and you'll definitely reach a point where even one meal a day seems doable.
Also, you really need to supplement electrolytes. Buy a case of zero-calorie Powerade or something and feel free to have several a day. You can also buy electrolyte mix from GNC or regular potassium/magnesium/Vitamin B pills from wherever. When I don't do this I definitely feel symptoms of sluggishness, headache, etc. When I do it I notice none of these symptoms.

No bacon, no greasy food, etc.

DAY 2
I'm starting to feel weird, bros. I'm so mentally ready for this that the thought of eating a carb is not even an option. But I do feel like I'm being asphyxiated in a way. I feel like part of the stuff that keeps me alive is being taken away from me. Nasty feeling, but I'll stick it out until I start to see the purported benefits, not only in terms of weight, but all the stuff doctors talk about with regards to Keto diet (mental clarity, cell rejuvenation, etc). Is Dr. Oz a charlatan?

I didn't cherry pick them, they're just the first ones that popped-up after I typed my search. I never said the keto diet was supposed to be long-term or a lifestyle, that is WHY it is called a DIET. You use it for a period of time, lose weight, then increase your carbs. I do believe in low carb consumption for life, though. Not as low as keto, but definitely in the low numbers for the other benefits that are mentioned.
Yeah, any diet requires monitoring, is that a surprise? The conclusion of the article was positive. Feel free to post an article that speaks negatively about the diet, although I suspect you won't come back for that.

"Moreover, these diets are not totally safe and can be associated with some adverse events. Notably, in rodents, development of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and insulin resistance have been described."
A good "diet" is one that you stick to indefinitely, not some fraud fad diet that a YouTube doctor is pushing to sell eBooks. What do you think will happen once you get off of keto and "increase your carbs"? You're beyond retarded

Ignorant retard making up shit.
I found another 180 study. You: Not a SINGLE study, LJL. This is a 6-month study of overweight patients on keto.
"The present study shows the beneficial effects of a long-term ketogenic diet. It significantly reduced the body weight and body mass index of the patients. Furthermore, it decreased the level of triglycerides, LDL cholesterol and blood glucose, and increased the level of HDL cholesterol. Administering a ketogenic diet for a relatively longer period of time did not produce any significant side effects in the patients. Therefore, the present study confirms that it is safe to use a ketogenic diet for a longer period of time than previously demonstrated."

"It could be argued that the ketogenic diet has beneficial effects other than simply fat and weight loss. For example, Davidson and colleagues [47] recently suggested that ketones may protect from cognitive impairment caused by weight gain and obesity. Moreover there is some evidence that ketogenic diets may have positive effects on mood in overweight subjects [48,49]. Even if during the very early phase of a ketogenic diet (the first 4 or 5 days) subjects may sometimes complain of lethargy [50,51] this effect passes rapidly and subjects subsequently report an improved mood [44,48,49].
Questions are often raised by colleagues when discussing KDs and a main concern regards blood lipids. In common opinion a low carbohydrate, high protein and fat diet is potentially unhealthy as it may cause a rise in LDL cholesterol and TGs and this issue is of special importance in obese individuals. There are nevertheless several lines of evidence that point to beneficial effects of KDs on these cardiovascular risk factors. The majority of recent studies seem to amply demonstrate that the reduction of carbohydrates can actually lead to significant benefits in total cholesterol reduction, increases in HDL and reduction of blood triglycerides [11,13]. Furthermore KDs have been reported to increase the size and volume of LDL-C particles [70] which is considered to reduce cardiovascular disease risk since smaller LDL particles have a higher atherogenicity. There is a biochemical rational behind the effects of KDs on endogenous cholesterol synthesis. A key enyzme in cholesterol biosynthesis is HMGCoA reductase (the target for statins) which is activated by insulin, which means that an increase in blood glucose and consequently of insulin levels will lead to increased endogenous cholesterol synthesis. Thus a reduction in dietary carbohydrate together with a correct intake of cholesterol will lead to a inhibition of cholesterol biosynthesis.
8. Conclusions
A period of low carbohydrate ketogenic diet may help to control hunger and may improve fat oxidative metabolism and therefore reduce body weight. Furthermore new kinds of ketogenic diets using meals that mimic carbohydrate rich foods could improve the compliance to the diet [78]. Attention should be paid to patient’s renal function and to the transition phase from ketogenic diet to a normal diet that should be gradual and well controlled [69]. The duration of ketogenic diet may range from a minimum (to induce the physiological ketosis) of 2–3 weeks to a maximum (following a general precautionary principle) of many months (6–12 months). Correctly understood the ketogenic diet can be a useful tool to treat obesity in the hands of the physician."

Why is NCBI calling a 30g carb/day diet "keto"?
I thought keto was 5-10% carbs.

DAY 3: Lost my appetite completely on day 2, in the evening, so I was able to fast for about 17 hours.
I didn't wake up starving, but I desperately needed carbs. So I cooked my eggs with onion, broccoli and tomato, added avocado, and I couldn't wait to get to the berries--half a cup in a shake.
Berry shake was a huge relief. The need for something fresh, slightly sweet was killing me. Single only sweet carb I'm having in the entire day. Feeling slightly weak.

Another positive side effect: I slept like a fucking baby. I normally have terrible sleep patterns and wake up feeling as tired as when I went to bed. This was a pleasant surprise. You can say this is all mental, but if it is, it's fucking doing good things.
Keeping this as my first keto diary. Will look back on this thread once the whole thing is over.

DAY 4
Was able to fast 16 hrs no problem. Didn't wake up hungry. Did not need a berry shake, appetite is gone. I ate my regular low-carb breakfast, 3 eggs with broccoli, coconut oil, tomato, avocado, and just a tiny bit of mayo. Feel slightly weak, but not too bad. I slept much better than usual again.

DAY 5: Same as previous days. Intermittent fasting has become a lot easier. I'm not awaken by hunger at all, and I actually have to make myself go have breakfast since I experience no hunger.
Sleep has improved as stated before, no other developments. Drinking 2-3 cups of coffee with coconut oil and butter per day, they're 180.

Just realized I've been eating all the wrong veggies. Making adjustments starting on day 6 (tomorrow) and moving forward.
I've been eating a ton of onion with my eggs and broccoli everyday. Stopping that now. (Onion --> more carbs than carrots.)
Will start following this guide: https://www.ruled.me/best-low-carb-vegetables-ketogenic-diet/

Update: Behaved well on NYE. Diet soda, seltzer water, nuts, cheese and cuts of meat. In small amounts.
However, I broke my fast. Still awake at 6am after the entire thing, and starved as fuck, so I had a fucking early as shit breakfast of mostly fats: 3 eggs cooked in coconut oil, some eggplant, cheese, 1/2 avocado, and a green tea with coconut oil and butter.
Hopefully I will sleep a few hours after replenishing my calories.
This is DAY 6.

Update: DAY 8
Lost 1 pound, FML. Oh well, it's been only 1 week.
I expect to lose a lot more on the 2nd week. Will be also eating the right vegs, unlike week 1, where I abused onions and broccoli. Now I'll go for asparagus, spinach, zucchini, eggplant, etc.

I only did berries 3x week. So wtf am I supposed to eat then? I did get rid of onions and broccoli asap.
I see myself eating spoonfuls of coconut oil and avocado, small amounts of meat and eggs... and wtf else will I eat? Nothing?
How much did you lose on your first week, btw?

the problem is that it's tricky -- you can knock yourself out of keto or prevent yourself from getting into keto with just a couple trip ups. so limiting yourself to just 3x a week of something isn't going to cut it.
so it's good you ditched the berries, onions, and broccoli
you want your net carbs to be as low as possible: coconut oil, avocado, 80% ground beef (you actually want a lot of fat to get into keto; too much lean beef can kick you out from your body converting protein to glucose); eggs like crazy; cheese (i do omelettes with some type of meat in them, like pepperoni when i go keto).
i'm not someone who needs a big variety of food, though. i'm happy with beef, eggs, cheese, pepperoni, sausage, avocado, and a little spinach maybe.
i used to be able to lose 3-4 lbs in the first week on it, but now it takes my body a little longer. i might lose 2 lbs the first week, but then it really ramps up soon after. the key is getting into keto and staying there.
sounds like you've made some good adjustments. stick with those over the next 10 days and check progress.
avoid nuts when going into keto -- they're tempting, and i love them, and they're good for just maintaining low carb, but you're playing with fire having them knock you out of keto in the beginning. keto and low carb are two different things, and keto is what gets quicker results.

So you've been in keto and experiencing all the keto symptoms?
List the items that you ate daily and in what amounts.
I basically eat nuts because they're low-carb and satiating. Are you basically starving the whole day? Oils and meats don't make you feel satiated, so what do you eat for that?
Nuts are good for this, according to this Harvard article:
"Some negative side effects of a long-term ketogenic diet have been suggested, including increased risk of kidney stones and osteoporosis, and increased blood levels of uric acid (a risk factor for gout). Possible nutrient deficiencies may arise if a variety of recommended foods on the ketogenic diet are not included. It is important to not solely focus on eating high-fat foods, but to include a daily variety of the allowed meats, fish, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds to ensure adequate intakes of fiber, B vitamins, and minerals (iron, magnesium, zinc)—nutrients typically found in foods like whole grains that are restricted from the diet. Because whole food groups are excluded, assistance from a registered dietitian may be beneficial in creating a ketogenic diet that minimizes nutrient deficiencies."

Why chicken? I eat fish. How do you feel the rest of the day? Are you starving?
What amounts are you eating? Srsly, you're not doing keto diet. Keto is 70% fat, 25% protein, 5% carbs.
You're doing 90% protein, 9% carbs, 1% fat.

You need to get ketone testing strips, they’re on amazon
Also, if you’re a poisonmo, your body will consume the liver around your organs before anywhere else in your body, so it may take a while to notice a difference
You also need to explore extended fasting to reset your set weight

Nope, not bad smell yet, so I'm probably not in ketosis, but it takes several days as far as I know.
How can it be flame if it's backed up by science? Do you have any solid arguments supporting your stance?

Here's another good one for you:
"Weight loss is the primary reason my patients use the ketogenic diet. Previous research shows good evidence of a faster weight loss when patients go on a ketogenic or very low carbohydrate diet compared to participants on a more traditional low-fat diet, or even a Mediterranean diet. However, that difference in weight loss seems to disappear over time.
A ketogenic diet also has been shown to improve blood sugar control for patients with type 2 diabetes, at least in the short term. There is even more controversy when we consider the effect on cholesterol levels. A few studies show some patients have increase in cholesterol levels in the beginning, only to see cholesterol fall a few months later. However, there is no long-term research analyzing its effects over time on diabetes and high cholesterol."

"80% ground beef. Eggs. Cheese. Pepperoni."
Lolwut? This is protein, keto is mostly healthy fat. You're not doing keto then. You're on Atkins.

the protein is only an issue at preventing keto if you aren't eating much fat, because your body is looking for a source of energy. protein is the last ditch maneuver.
so if you're eating a ton of super lean beef it can be an issue. but i eat 80% and it's never been a problem.
god, when i do keto, and i'm actually starting again tomorrow, i often eat at least 3-4 eggs a day, especially on weekends, loaded with full fat cheese.
other days for dinner i'll eat a big bowl of 80% ground beef, maybe on a little spinach, with a bunch of cheese and mustard on top.
i don't worry about the protein/fat ratio all that much, though. if i were eating only 93% beef and no cheese, maybe it would turn into an issue. but it never has.

Well, strangely that's not what proponents of the diet say. They tell you to carefully monitor your macros at 75% fat, 25% protein and 5% carbs.
This is why I'm surprised that you think I can't have 5g of carbs (berries or veggies) when I'm eating a much larger amount of fat.
If they said 0% carbs, then you'd be right.
Edit: Btw, I'm about to have a cup of Matcha green tea. It has 1g of carbs. Is that also to be avoided? It has less carbs than spinach, ljl.

Holy shit, 50 lbs? I only need to lose about 20lbs, so it will be more difficult for me. I'm not even overweight, I'm trying to get ripped as fuck, so this is an uphill battle for me.
So everyone will have a completely different opinion as you can see ITT.
Can you share how long it took you to lose the 50lbs and a sample of your daily intake? Thunder will disagree with 90% everyone you say, btw.

Took six months. Standard daily meals:
Breakfast: Three egg + cheese omelette, if you include butter = about 450 calories.
Coffee with whipping cream - about 100 calories.
Lunch: piece of salmon + some filler snack like handful of almonds or pecans or spoonful of natrual (no sugar) peanut butter.
Dinner: 8-10 oz of grilled chicken or ground beef or roast beef.
Snacks as needed: almonds, peanut butter, pecans, Brasil nuts, macadamia nuts, deli meat, cheese sticks, beef jerky (but need to check specific flavor sometimes). Also coffee as needed, heavy cream > half & half > milk but honestly a couple tablespoons of milk is not going to kill you're ketosis.
When I have the omelette for breakfast at 8, I don't get hungry until two. When I have lower fat at lunch, I need a snack mid to late afternoon. Do still get hungry inexplicably maybe once every couple weeks but can usually just stay away from the kitchen when it happens. Otherwise, even if you binge, you're having, what, 350 calories of pecans? So you won't be hungry at the next meal.

I don't fucking believe this. I only ate a fucking spinach salad with 1 zucchini and 1 bell pepper. Turns out my carbs are over 30g? WTF.
(Edit: Total carbs - Dietary fiber = 22.79g 'net carbs' -- Wohooo.)
https://imgur.com/a/hY7P8IA
Here it is:
1 large zucchini - 10g carbs
1 medium bell pepper - 7.18g carbs
3 cups of spinach - 3.27g carbs
1/4 cup peanuts - 5.89g carbs
1/4 cup almonds - 7.71 carbs
36g carbs based on the above. I call BS. They're probably not net carbs as lots of fiber is not being accounted for.

(Edit: Total carbs - Dietary fiber = 22.79g 'net carbs' -- Wohooo.)
I fucked up the protein because I ran out of fish, just ordered more.
But so far, it looks like the salad and barely 1/2 cup of nuts are fucking up the carbs. Thought I also heard that being under 30g is the rule, so I only fucked up by 6 grams and I haven't subtracted the fiber, so I should be good here.
I refuse to give up nuts for health reasons and satiety. How the fuck will I feel full without something like that?
Today I increased my fat intake and bought 3 bars of organic butter, bacon, cheese, 2 jars of coconut oil and I'm basically living on eggs and salad. I'm at 8% carbs, that shouldn't be a big deal if I'm at 84% fat, amirite?

15 days so far, fucked around the first week with extra carbs, so I'm not counting it as real keto.

Yup, rolling. I feel the fat melting away. I've read some info about keto strips not being that reliable, so I'm not using any tests.
Of all the symptoms that are listed out there for keto, I've only experienced two: (1) Chills, (2) Dry lips. Other than that, I don't feel a different breath or gotten any "keto flu"... I also don't feel weak or lethargic or foggy.
I went a whole week without a single fruit or nut, so I have to be in ketosis. The most carbs i've eaten have come from spinach, zucchini, bell pepper and eggplant (in limited portions). Strange how some people show no symptoms, except of course, the weight loss!

i'm not doing keto, but i've been trying to limit my carbs the last 2 weeks and haven't had any alcohol since jan 2.
i measured 72" 205 lbs. at my physical at the end of november, after going 25 days of nodrink.
i basically spent all of december binge drinking guinness and vodka cranberry, and not watching my diet. i figure i probably gained 10 lbs. over that month.
i just got a scale and weighed myself today and i'm 208. i would like to get into the 190s. At 195 I look pretty decent for an almost 40 y/o mo.
