It really doesn't seem worth it, total shrew gimmick. If you want to cook a simple meal in a half hour you already can with 30 seconds of thought

My wife loves it and has made some good shit with it...but I know nothing about cooking so I don't even understand what it does, how it works, or whether it's a good deal.

Unless you really enjoy cooking and exploring new recipes and cuisines, you should really consider what its real use for you would be. It's an effective (and very fast) rice cooker and good for ranging from hummus to cooking a whole chicken. Got one as a gift and enjoy it, but I also make a lot of random dishes that are a lot easier and less of a hassle with an Instant Pot. Would be useless if I just ate grilled chicken and microwave steam veggies every night.

Using a normal pressure cooker unless I'm mistaken you have to cook even canned chickpeas for like 8 hours. Using an Instant Pot it's like 30 min of pressure cooking.

It's still annoying because you ahve to put the mushy chickpeas into a food processor/blender to make it into the final hummus either way

yeah that's what i was getting at. was wondering if the instapot blends the hummus. i guess not.

no, you don't need to cook canned chickpeas if you're making hummus. just open and drain and throw straight in the blender. if you're using raw chickpeas, you need to soak for 8-12 hours at least.... and then cook. i think the instapot speeds that up?

You definitely do need to cook canned chickpeas. At least if you want good hummus you do. Cooking times obviously change but breaking it down with oil + salt is what makes it creamy and good.

this is flame. canned chickpeas are fully cooked.

hummus tastes better w fresh chickpeas than canned chickpeas, but further cooking canned chickpeas isn't gonna make it any better.

creamy and good comes from whisking the tehina and lemon juice at the beginning, removing the skins, etc.

depends. do you already have a crock pot? it's a rice cooker, pressure cooker and a crock pot. But let's be honest, unless you're Asian you aren't going to be using it mostly as a rice cooker and you probably won't be using it mostly as a pressure cooker either.

I already had a crock pot so I elected not to get one.

Just got one for Black Friday. I'm a vegetarian (though the rest of the family eats meat) so it'll have a somewhat limited use. Still not sure what I think of it. Made penne alla vodka in it tonight. It's not a hard dish to make, but a one-pot setup means less cleanup, and I can set it to cook and work on other stuff like getting the table ready or making a side. Still working out the kinks though. I followed instructions I found online but I think there was too little water and I got a "burn" warning when the pasta was sticking to the bottom of the pot. Still came out cooked though lol.

We're veg and use it 3x/month or so. We cook beans most often, either for hummus or just cooked black or pinto beans. Wife has made some soups in it (which could be done just as easily on the stove, but would take 4x as long). If we didn't eat so many beans it would be a waste of space in our kitchen.

Thanks for all the comments. Can I just throw in a raw chicken quarter, pork chops, drumsticks, etc. with some raw veggies and it'll be cooked after 30 min?
