Don’t think so. Bad numbers despite having one of the best teams of all time surrounding him. Feel like he succeeded but also had the perfect opportunity to succeed. Dan Marino on that Dallas team would have done everything he did.

Agreed. It’s tough with Aikman because numbers aren’t everything but he only threw 20 TDs once. He had a great RB, great WR, great coaches, great organization, great O-Line but individually he was always just a solid game manager.

He also did everything he needed to do, so it’s tough to measure him.

game management is like 85% of being a good QB. all these "athletic" QBs maximize the other 15%, but it's still only 15%, which is why none of them have ever won a Super Bowl. it's superior Aryans like Tom Brady with superior IQs who win Super Bowls

https://hahanice.com/greatest-nfl-quarterbacks-of-all-time/

[published 2012, by me]

Instead of creating a numbered list, I decided to do something different by separating the best quarterbacks into three different tiers and also including a few honorable mentions.

First off, these are some honorable mentions of amazing players who didn’t quite make the list:

Aaron Rodgers – He’s a rising star who could wind up in the top tier of the greatest QB’s some year. Although he choked in the playoffs this year, he does already have a Super Bowl ring which is impressive given his experience as a starter. I think we’ll be seeing him as one of the best for many years to come.

Eli Manning – He has over 27,000 career yards and is known as being one of the best second-half quarterbacks of all time. If Eli continues his upward trend with high quarterback ratings and super bowl rings, he could move up in rank quickly to one of the very best.

Terry Bradshaw – He led the Stealers to four Super Bowl victories and won the MVP award in two of them. Although his overall stats don’t seem to be that amazing, he was clearly a leader and a champion which is what matters most.

Bob Griese – Griese was a huge star for the Dolphins at one point and led them to two Super Bowl victories. He had 6 Pro Bowl appearances and was known as a quarterback who made almost no mistakes which is something not every QB can say no matter how great.

3rd Place Medal Winners:

Troy Aikman – The Dallas Cowboy superstar makes the list after turning around a rough early career into three Super Bowl victories. When it comes to QB’s, Aikman is one of the biggest winners of all time and could arguably be even higher on this list.

Warren Moon – Probably the most famous Oiler, Warren Moon achieved nearly 50,000 passing yards in his career and may be the greatest African American quarterback ever. Only two people in history have been honored as both Canadian and NFL Hall-of-Famers and Moon is one of them. He at one time held two major records, one for most pass completions and another for most pass attempts.

Kurt Warner – Everywhere Warner played, he was successful. First he took the Rams to three Super Bowls and earned one ring, and then he came into a sloppy Arizona franchise and somehow made it to a Super Bowl. He’s one of those QB’s who may not have reached his full potential but was nonetheless a star.

Sid Luckman – He was an old-timer who revolutionized the game for the Chicago Bears. He won four Super Bowls as quarterback and is one of the most successful players ever. During this era the Bears were known as having the best offenses in the NFL and Luckman won MVP in 1943.

Second Place Winners:

John Elway – Unlike most quarterbacks, Elway played it smart and decided to call it quits after winning two straight Super Bowls. Selected to an amazing 9 different Pro Bowls, Elway had a consistent career of overall excellence. He ended his career with over 50,000 yards and 300 touchdowns.

Brett Favre – A Super Bowl winner, Favre reached the playoffs 12 different times in his career and won three consecutive MVP awards. Favre was a quarterback who got things done and put himself out there; he wasn’t afraid to make mistakes. He holds the all-time records for completions, attempts, yards, touchdowns, and even interceptions. If he had thrown fewer big-time picks I would list him in the top five, no question.

Roger Staubach – Heisman trophy winner Staubach went on to lead the Cowboys to a completely undefeated season in his very first attempt; a feat that cannot be trumped. As a servant in the Army, Staubach was well-disciplined and always confident. He would lead the Cowboys to another Super Bowl and finish off with an impressive 85-29 record overall.

Dan Marino – He would likely have been a First Place winner if he had earned a Super Bowl ring sometime in his career. Marino took the league by surprise when he entered the NFL and in only his second season, he had a record-breaking year with 48 touchdowns and over 5,000 yards. With a powerful arm and quick release, Marino holds 14 records, one of which is for the most 4th quarter comeback wins.

Johnny Unitas – Selected for 10 Pro Bowls, Unitas broke Sid Luckman’s record for most touchdowns in a season in 1959. With four honors as MVP winner and a Super Bowl ring, the Baltimore Colt is many times recognized as the greatest ever even though his stats, while impressive, are not alone the best.

First Place Winners:

Peyton Manning – With numbers that look like a retired superstar, Manning is hoping to continue strong after surgery and is definitely a top tier QB. He already has over 50k yards and over 350 touchdowns while also achieving an unbelievable 95.2 passer rating. A Super Bowl champion, Manning has earned four MVP awards and holds over 25 NFL records.

Steve Young – With the all-time record for most awards for top passer rating, Steve Young was obviously as consistent as imaginable. Also noteworthy, Young was the best rusher on this list and he rushed for 43 touchdowns in his career. He holds the record for having the best NFL performance during a Super Bowl for a quarterback and is the only QB in history to follow in the footsteps of a legend and then become a legend himself.

Tom Brady – With three Super Bowl wins and counting, he may be the only quarterback to turn out so well when initially doubted coming into the NFL. Brady has an impressive 111-32 overall record and has won league MVP twice. He is one of the calmest quarterbacks and never seems to lose his poise. Brady’s career passer rating of 92.9 is one of the best ever and demonstrates his consistency.

Bart Starr – The greatest Green Bay Packer ever, Starr is possibly the best quarterback of all time. Leading his team to five NFL championships, he is the only quarterback to have a championship ring for every finger on his hand. Starr is also the best playoff quarterback of all time, with a record 100+ all-time playoff passer rating. Although many people forget this old-timer, he’s really only matched by Joe Montana.

Joe Montana – With four Super Bowl rings and a record three Super Bowl MVP awards, Montana was simply the best of his time if not the best QB ever. His overall 92.3 QB rating and 16-7 postseason record are what really set him apart from the others. Unlike many others, he never went to a Super Bowl that he didn’t win.
