Did it matter at all in 2008? Duke was 1000000x worse than this. Smollett is an isolated jigaboo and the media didn't go *that* crazy supporting him. Duke was like Covington except quite a bit worse, all the media jumped to conclusions about it and condemned the students before the evidence was out.
