My wife told our nanny we had plans Sunday night and all day Monday and needed her to work. She texts her Sunday asking for Monday off and wasn’t planning on coming back that night. My wife says she can’t have the time off, so she comes back Sunday. She texts my wife that she is too sick to work on Monday and then pops out of her room suitcases in hand at like 2:00 and shot my wife death glares. Her friend is waiting for her outside and she basically runs out of the house and dives in her friends car.
So now all my plans for the week are fucked and we have to scramble to find another nanny. |

So she wants all the benefits of paying very little and none of the drawbacks of having your privacy invaded by including somebody as part of your family. Shocking that people don’t respond well to being exploited like that. |

It also doesn’t matter that your wife only works part time and so doesn’t require her to work the entire time. Making her wake up at 6:30 is unreasonable. It also doesn’t matter that your daughter naps. I pay my nanny close to 4x you and my daughter naps for 3-4 hours/day and the nanny can eat whatever the fuck she wants from the fridge. For a while we had a bunch of fucking winter truffles in the fridge. Yes I’d be pissed if she cooked with one but I’m not going to say shit to her.
In things like childcare, if you’re paying wages that would make it impossible to make a living doing, you’re going to only find people who aren’t taking it seriously and looking at this as a temporary gig while they party, look for a husband, etc. I bet if you paid your nanny ~$2500 as a live in, youre going to find better candidates. You need somebody older, preferably with family back in home country they send money to. That’s what my friends have as live in nannies and they pay that amount.
I don’t think the au pair agency works because the au pair can also request to be placed with another family and your wife’s demands and personality is not going to make it easy for any au pair with agency backing to stay.

I was a straight-A student that never got into trouble. If I had to deal with my mom every day I'm not sure that would still be true. You have at least another example ITT too, and of course TC and his wife. So yes, yes it does.

Mine has been the norm for a very long time. By the way, the au pair is a step up from what most people do which is dump them in daycare from several months old. At least they get bonded to a single person instead of a rotating group of staff. If you find a good au pair it is the best of all worlds. And, of course, the family is financially far better off.
