Waiting for this same car brother. I’m between the 2020 outback and the 19 Rav4 Hybrid. Everything online says the RAV4 hybrid is great, very quick off the line, smooth shifting, etc. Plus it’s hard to beat 40 mpg.

Apparently the electric motor gives it quite a bit of torque off the line. I think it’s the fastest compact suv in its class.

Just put in an order for the RAV4 Hybrid brother.

I decided that for around the same price as the outback the hybrid was a better deal in that Toyota does 2 years free maintenance plus the fact that Toyota seems to have their hybrid systems very dialed in terms of longevity and good driving feel.

While Subaru’s are great and I was previously leaning towards the 2020 outback I have some concerns about reliability in comparison to the Toyota and the lack of a hybrid made it as easy choice.

I would go check out the gas rav4’s in person just to get a feel of the interiors. I actually thought they were pretty nice even on the base models.

As an FYI; the new outback is gonna be launched in 2 days if that makes your decision any easier.

Also rav4 hybrids are basically getting no discount due to insane demand. I ended up just biting the bullet after getting a slight discount which I compared with over 10 different dealers none of whom could match.

Production scheduled for 4/25 with delivery a week or so later.

Going solo in a month so just leasing base model and writing off lease. Plan to buy hse or limited in 3 years unless there’s a serious competitor.

Was considering hse this year but hate the blue trim and stitching.

Price bump from LE to XLE didn’t make sense in hybrid. Basically no difference between the two unless you start adding packages at which point you may as well jump to hse.

After calling every dealership in Southern California... full msrp lol.

36 mo/15k miles, 870 drive off and 426 per month including tax.

Actually sent that offer around to about ten different dealers who had a car matching my specs on its way or in production and heard from several that there was no way for them to beat it.

Got some dudes info off leasehackr who’s some kind of fleet manager at an oc toyota dealership and maintains a spreadsheet of the best lease terms he can offer which he will share. He refuses to negotiate (I tried) and encourages you to shop his deals around (I did). He beat everyone I talked to.

If you give me a throwaway email I’ll give you his info.

I believe my rav is in production today or tmw and should be delivered in early May.

If you wait a couple months you’ll probably have way more room to negotiate as dealers start to get more stock in. Currently there’s nothing physically on lots and only cars being built or scheduled to be built. To actual order a car from scratch is apparently a significant wait time right now.

There’s no way that’s true. I’m paying no money down except drive off and it’s a 15,000 mile lease.

Retail was a couple hundred under 30,000.

If you can find some offer or comparable lease for the Lexus hybrid I could easily get out of this and go with that.

[EDIT] I do see that someone leased the nx 300h for 398 per month not including tax on 12,000 miles at 36 mos which is around the same as my lease payment with tax however the miles are lower and they got a 2500 loyalty discount which I don’t think I would be eligible for. The nx hybrid also seems to get comparatively shitty gas mileage, 30 v 40, is slower than the RAV4 hybrid 7.5 0-60 v 9.1.

the trick is to pay the entire lease upfront. i'm leasing a new lexus at the equivalent of $388/mo all in on a $43k msrp and including the lease return insurance. but that might not work for you tax-wise. i'm at 12k miles/yr for 36 months. residual value is 22k but I can negotiate them down when I turn it in if I want to buy it off the lease. no loyalty discount (first time customer).

I’ll look into that, may be worth it based on the interior upgrades.

But yes you’re correct that I can’t pay the lease up front due to tax. I think that would have dropped the rav below 400.

see if Toyota will work out a 3 installment deal (paying each year upfront). lexus is very flexible. MB used to be but has tightened up a bit.

I'd only be buying new if I choose Toyota. I tested out one of the gas models (the ugly fucking Adventure trim) and did like the interior.

If I go Toyota, I'd get the Hybrid XSE.

If I go Subaru, I'd get the XT Touring from 2017 or 2018 CPO or maybe just a 2016 Limited to save money.

Looks nice. I am not actually going to buy one now, but ut's nice to know they exist. If I cop a job with a long ass commute I will want the extra mpg

You think the turbo is worth it? The car is pretty ponderously slow with the base four cylinder.

honestly that's why i'd only get the forester XT. it's nice having that extra oomph when you need it.

(though i do hate paying more for fucking 93 gas)

does the subaru need premium gas for the turbo? Fucking gas is over $4 again in CA.

I don't really wan to pay $40K for the car...

i imagine so. don't turbos always recommend/require high octane gas?

if i had to commute with my car i'd be 100% on board with the rav4 hybrid, but i don't use it daily.

financing deals for the new model subaru's will probably be shitty.

i wonder if the turbo will hurt the life of the car.

is anyone offering financing that's good enough to be worth it these days? i assume i'll be paying cash.

my wife financed her last car at 0.5%, so that was a no-brainer, but we haven't seen any deals lately.

i mean theoretically 1.9% financing is better money than student loan or mortgage interest payments, even with the mortgage deduction.

My wife's prius was 0% down 0% financing, so that was nice. The old model outbacks are also $0 down and 0% in anticipation of the new model. But of course we are waiting or this new one too.

yeah, don't think i'd buy one of the old ones. and i still overall really prefer the forester to the outback.

what do you like about the forrester? I feel like you are getting a smaller car that handles less well.

just prefer the higher, boxier style. there's no significant difference in storage, but the outback is definitely longer (and more difficult to park in MFH/BK).

the new RAV4 hybrid can be pricey and the demand is high so I assume no deals

I'm usually against leasing but might lease my wife a new Subaru their terms are pretty good

which subaru would you lease? I feel like I would want to get a hitch and roof rack goodies for a subaru so leasing might not be the most efficient.

Outback or Forester

even a used RAV4 hybrid is still close to 30K

how many kids do you have that you'd actually need/use a roof rack for anything?

all you really need is one of the ski boxes.

get one of the enclosed boxes for skis, never mount them directly on top of your car. don't know anything about bikes.

you can probably fit everything inside unless you have 3 kids.
