Also, anecdotally, it seems that companies are getting less tolerant of lifestyle positions in general, and law is no exception. So like in everything else, they're firing/forcing retirement and not hiring nearly enough new people. The new line is "everyone should be more efficient/productive." Of course, this also leads to fewer people being able to break into in-house to begin with.

State/local gov may start at 60k, goes to 150k with pension. Not bad.

You should always take the job that leads you to where you want to be in 5 to 10 years out, not necessarily the one that is the highest paid now.

Its not that hard to switch as long as youre not like 10 yrs out...oh, wait.

Are you barred in a US jurisdiction? Do you interview OK?

Fwiw, I interview OK and got random jobs in compliance, hedge fund in house, and government litigation, with limited relevant experience in any of those. As lawyers, we have to learn on the job anyway.

You should target more jobs than just traditional in house jobs limited to your practice area.

Interview skills become more important if you move to flyover bc they care less about pedigree. Pedigree gets your foot in the door but interview matters way more IMO.

Anyone can fake good interviewing skills unless they are super autistic. Just practice interviewing with a friend and have them ask you curve ball questions.

Also apply outside of your practice area. (Arent you in capital markets? Inhouse at a bank sounds awful...apply for some other shit.)

If this leads to an actual GGTP U.S. Job it will be 180. Especially if it comes from a random internet friend with the email address listed above.

Grind for years and either lateral to a shit firm (where you will still eventually be forced out) or take an in-house job making 150k in perpetuity.
