People think that having kids or not having kids is a decision between two equally viable options, but it's really not

did you spend much time looking in your parents' eyes and laughing with joy? lmao

one of the persistent errors xo posters are prone to is assuming they won't turn out exactly like everyone around them, when of course they will. your home life as a parent will look like your home life as a child, and you will look at your kids with dismal regret the same way your parents looked at you

It's equally meaningless whether you have kids or not. It's just that people who have kids don't have the spare time to think about life's big questions.

*for certain people

you don't seem to have many friends, an SO or close family members or even pets (I know I know I'm starting to sound like pets but I love my cat, I consider him a member of the family and I know I receiving in mae

If you have a lot of other close personal relationships (as well as genuine interests, and a job that you truly love) you can be happy and fulfilled with kids.

life isn't one size fits all. XO posters love to take their preferences/experiences and assume that they apply to everyone else. You know how I'm always accused of calling people aspie? Well lacking empathy (the ability to out yourself in other people's shoes and understand that they may be different from yours) is sort of the bedrock of aspieness, at least as its colloquially used as an insult on autoadmit. (I truly hope that everyone realize I'm not a psychiatrist (or attempting to be one) who is actually diagnosing people with Asperger's syndrome the actual disease). This is why I us the term so often, becaus of people like the OP.

I dunno you might be right for people in their mid-30s but I’m older than you and I can say at least from my own personal experience it seems like people with kids have a much higher chance of being happy and fulfilled later in life than those without.

This presupposes that having kids is what makes these people happy. Maybe they were happy and normal, well adjusted adults who had kids, vs the depressed aspies that can’t imagine finding someone to love them or the type-A shrews who put career over marriage/family.

Yes there are only two pursuits in the entire world that one can engage in - comma-chasing biglaw or raising children.

There is nothing more alpha than being the patriarch of a large family and maintaining that status as your 3-4 kids each have 2+ grand-kids.

Basically, having kids sucks for the first five years and the childless pity their friends with kids. But for the next 40 or so years that’s reversed.
