He's loaded--especially after the Kap settlement--but a shot at several million dollars for a few days' work had to be appealing to him. Also, I wouldn't be shocked if the friendship with Avenatti played at least some role. Avenatti is broke, and Geragos probably thought he could (1) make some easy cash and (2) help out his bro at the same time.
From reading the Complaint, Avenatti was the one being a dumbass rejecting Nike's 'offer' to pay the client $1.5 million. Then Avenatti and Geragos conferred, and they came back with the all-in settlement offer of $22.5 MM. I suspect that was Geragos's idea. That's what they should have led with. |
