In 2018 they started off 16-26. And somehow still won 92 games en route to another WS loss.

Doesn't mean it's a certainty in the postseason and at most it'll be like a 65-35 and more like 60-40 pct per round, but Dodgers definitely are the best team in the NL so far & looks like it going forward as well.
Nats need to shore up that bullpen, so do the Braves and I still don't trust their starting rotation.

But I don't think the Dodgers or any contenders really wanted to overpay in prospects for a closer and were unwilling to pay the premium on the extra years of control b/c they still see relievers as being very volatile in value.
Jansen was elite from 2013-2017 and he's lost it.
Kimbrel went from elite to decent to now just mediocre.
Andrew Miller is now pretty damn bad

By total WAR, Twins are somehow above the Yankees so I put them here but they could be a 2.5 tier depending on their starting pitching situation
3. Rays/A's/Nats - Flawed but legit contenders. Nats have a sick 1-2-3 almost matching the Astros IMO- Scherzer/Stras/Corbin is as good as it gets. Rays have good pitching, and A's have a good closer and a good lineup w/ some starting pitching help that they didnt' have last season
4. Braves - tier of their own - on one hand, they have a nasty 1-4 in their lineup w/ Acuna, Freeman, Albies & Donaldson. On the other hand, I'm not sure Keuchel or Folty or Soroka are to be depended on in the playoffs, and they definitely overperformed on their wins dept vs. their peripherals - both Run Differential & total WAR says they should've most likely been a 90-93 win team.

Twins are kidn of hard to rank - I'd put them in the Dodgers/Yankees tier or slightly below; but going strictly by the overall stats, they're equal to those 2 but how that performance would translate there are legit questions.
Yankees by record were a bit lucky in terms of Run Differential & WAR totals, but that's also b/c their entire roster was injured at one point or another and their "best" 25 players certainly are worthy of the top 3 tier.
But I'd still rank the twins above the A's/Rays/Nats for now |

This Dodgers team seems a little better than the 2017 team, no? This is probably the best top to bottom team they have ever had in their history. And their SP can match the Astros. This is the best chance the Dodgers are going to have, even if there are juggernauts on the other side. |

The 2019 team definitely has the edge on depth & top-end starters (i'll take Ryu-Buehler-2019 Kersh over '17 Kershaw-Darvish-Hill any day) and definitely a better lineup from top-bottom, but the bullpen is better on the 2017 team w/ a Jansen that put up 1.32 ERA, a healthy Morrow & capable setup men in Cingrani/Watson/Maeda.
But the '19 Bullpen is bolstered by having guys like Hill/Stripling/Urias/Maeda and also Dustin May in the bullpen (last 9IP, had 13Ks 0ER and throws a 99mph sinker).
They broke the record for most wins in franchise history dating back to Brooklyn (although I think the '53 team won 105 in 154 games so higher win pct).
This is the best chance the Dodgers are going to have I agree - too bad the Astros are a fuckign juggernaut from top to bottom.
At least I can find comfort in knowing that they'll probably be good enough to lose the WS again next year b/c there's Lux, May, Ruiz, Gonsolin coming up next year full time in the majors (maybe not Ruiz) and still have 2 more T100 prospects in Josiah Gray & Jeter Downs (both from Puig trade lmao)

Ryu still has a ~3.00 FIP in postseason games, and has had some real gems in teh past
Kersh is not as good but he's also the no 3 starter.
Rich Hill has always been great in the postseason b/c hitters are unaccustomed to that curveball
Buehler is the best bet, but I'll still take the Dodgers rotation over the Yankees one.
Severino blows up, Tanaka is either lights out or gets destroyed, and not too sure about Paxton being good just yet.
Astros are def the favorites though |
