Just the guys and girls who are making dope money or have a trust fund? I'm talking of the single professional population.

There's also a ridiculous number of lucky folks living on rent control or some other subsidy racket

Certain finance, art etc doods can only get jobs in NYC. For lawyers, it does not make much sense.

So many people are trust fund kids in NYC though, even lawyers.

I've never lived in NYC but I could see valuing the lifestyle there over being able to live in a nice neighborhood, home, etc. Just depends where you are in life and what you like to do on a daily basis

If you get a decent $3,000 studio or 1 bed you actually have the same cost as someone in LA.

In LA you'd pay $2,000 for the same place, except you'd have to buy a $30k car. On a leased or car loan basis, that would be an extra $700 or so a month. Add $100 a month for gas. Then you got car insurance, maintenance, all for less options for food and fun within a 3 mile vicinity.

The real question is: why are people living in SF for $4,000 rent and only making $150k.

It's good when you're young to develop skills/cred/resume lines

like if you're in an ELITE marketing department in NYC you could take it back home to Omaha in the future and they'll always think you're special for that time in NYC

no diff than people who work in elite government jobs then go to random spots
