Yeah, we're trying to do that - getting her to still feel involved by helping/"helping" etc. Still, the hours of Mom spending hours just playing with her, doing activity books, reading, etc. are gone, and we're not peeling off for all-day trips to the zoo, amusement park, beach, etc. for a few months. Will all be fine but it's an adjustment to everything she's ever known. Part of it is that I feel a little bad about the change even knowing that she'll ultimately really appreciate having a sibling.

No, we have this thing: https://www.albeebaby.com/chicco-lullago-travel-crib-pistachio.html She's sleeping in it in our room for the first few months and then will move into her room in a regular crib. We also used it for our older daughter and as a [car] travel bassinet.

The Snoo seems like overkill unless your baby really prefers motion to fall asleep. Our first would have fallen asleep on the floor; so far the younger one appears to be a bit higher maintenance. I think it would take a bunch of sleepless nights for my wife to even consider a $1300 bassinet, though.

You can buy plenty of swaddles with straitjacket effect.

That sounds like an overly cynical position to take. If you read the reviews these "idiots" are getting 1-2 hours of extra sleep per night because of this "fancy gadget."

The reviews indicate that the difficulty in transitioning to a crib is due to trying to transition too late.

$500 is great for it. If it doesn't work for your kid, you'll be able to resell it for that no problem.

I think Gregor is right and it might be hard to transition to a crib permanently, when sleeping at grandma's or in a hotel, etc., but some kids are much more chill than others. If the Snoo saves you from rocking 3x/night for months and trying your best to gently transfer from your arms to a bassinet without the kid realizing, it will be more than worth it.

My black wife was reading reviews for over an hour last night and parents are saying it is worth every penny at $1200. I definitely don't want a difficult transition to the crib, but it looks like this thing will help us sleep for the first couple months. I think you are right about flipping it. That is my plan.

Thanks. Yeah, jealousy / competition is my wife's concern with same-gender siblings. I think the 4.5 years apart might help that a bit - they'll be in largely different stages of life until they're out of college.

My older daughter is so sweet and I'm totally fine with a second daughter.
