The culture in Scranton is very litigious, probably as a result of generations of mine workers getting shafted by the mining companies. The only two state Attorneys General from Scranton both went to prison for corruption. The city leans heavily Democratic. It has the second-largest St. Patrick's Day parade in the nation.
But the city itself is okay, with some areas being downright shitty. The surrounding neighborhoods where the wealthy people live are quaint and really nice. It's an easy one-hour drive to NYC and you have the Pocono Mountain region in your backyard. |

I don't know if they award high verdicts, but they definitely favor plaintiffs. Lots of trucking cases there, because it's a heavy route for traffic in and out of NYC, New England, and points South. It's funny that they have the Steamtown Mall (which is a dying shithole) and the Steamtown Marathon and a Steamtown museum. But there is no history whatsoever of anything being born there that relates to the steam locomotive. It all started with a grant secured by a crooked politician, of which Scranton has had many over the years.
The endless mountains and the northern tier of the state is beautiful. Not a lot of people or jobs, but a nice place to escape to. I can't imagine buying land there as an investment. |
